The Review

  • The Good

Looking for a Parisian hideaway in the heart of one of Dubai's trendiest districts? Part of the popular catering company and online gourmet deli shop, Chez Charles Restaurant is a French eatery that oozes authentic brasserie charm.

Situated in the Dubai Design District, indulge in delectable dishes in the indoor and outdoor dining areas, or unwind with a refreshing beverage on the chilled-out lounge terrace. Boasting a fantastic Prix Fixe Lunch from Sunday to Thursday (12pm to 2pm) and an à la carte menu with an array of delicacies such as Burgundy Snails a la Provençale and Gillardeau No. 2 oysters, Chez Charles Restaurant is guaranteed to impress.

We loved how bright and spacious the restaurant was, with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing natural light to shine through. The décor was simplistic yet elegant with calm colours, velvet chairs, French quotes and vintage mirrors adorning the walls. The open kitchen really added to the brasserie-style feel of the place, along with the minimalist white table cloths and striking chandelier hanging over the main dining area.

Perfect for business meetings, we opted for the Prix Fixe Lunch and were extremely impressed with the great value for money in portion sizes and offerings; you have the choice of three courses or two courses. Did we mention coffee was included, too?

  • The Bad
We wouldn't really recommend Chez Charles Restaurant for a family day out; it's more suited to business lunches and after-work gatherings. It's worth noting that smoking is only allowed on the lounge terrace, which means you're unable to smoke in the dining areas - even the outdoor one.

Location wise, the Dubai Design District is still considered an up-and-coming area, so if you're planning on continuing the night elsewhere, you'll need to jump in a taxi and head to a different part of town.
  • The Tips
If you fancy some chilled out drinks, head down to the lounge area where you'll find high table seating, a smoking terrace, a DJ booth and zinc bar counter. Depending on your mood, the outdoor dining area is very lounge-like while the indoor restaurant is more formal. Must-try dishes include the Roasted Duck Breast, Pain Perdu and the Tropézienne Brioche.

When the bread basket comes around, you have to try the honey and walnut bread - it's a must! Planning a big gathering? The restaurant has a private outdoor dining area that can seat up to 30 guests. It's important to note that valet is free for the first three hours, but after that you'll be charged AED 15 per hour.
