Explore one of Europe’s Most Famous Art Collections For FREE in Abu Dhabi

Spanning more than 90 years of contemporary art, one of Europe’s most celebrated collections is currently on exhibition at the Abu Dhabi Festival. Running until March 17 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the event is open to the public and entry is FREE! Here’s what you should know

On showcase from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona (MACBA) is an exhibition titled From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the MACBA Art Collection in Dialogue with the Emirates. Selected works from the famed collection will give art lovers a chance to explore some of Europe’s most important contemporary art, alongside the eye-popping works of 20 homegrown Emirati artists.

The exhibition features artworks across film, sculpture, painting, installation, drawing, photography, light works and conceptual pieces, with daily hour-long tours at 11am, 2pm and 3pm.

Explore the MACBA collection

The MACBA exhibition features works by some of the most prominent artists of the modern and contemporary eras, including Alexander Calder, Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, Piero Manzoni and John Baldessari, whose ‘Dwarf and Rhinoceros’ installation (pictured) will be impossible to miss. The exhibition will also put the spotlight on pioneers of UAE contemporary art, including Hassan Sharif, Mohammed Kazem and Ebtisam Abdul Aziz.

Join an expert panel discussion

Art critic and curator Montse Badia, an expert on the MACBA Collection, will be joined by Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi, writer and founder of Barjeel Art Foundation, to discuss contemporary art collecting in Europe and the Middle East. The event will be rare opportunity for visitors to hear from two of the art world’s most respected figures.
