The Review

  • The Good

A homely converted villa on a quiet street in Umm Suqeim, Kids Cottage is a nursery and kindergarten that caters to ages 10 months up to four years old. Decked out with wooden flooring, plants, soft furnishings and curtains, this cosy space is designed to replicate the feel of a real home.

Part of the Kids First Group, Kids Cottage follows the Reggio Emilia approach, which focuses heavily on exploration and discovery, as well as teaching methods based on the kids' interests. The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and boasts fantastic outdoor facilities.

There are seven stages of the EYFS; these include Social and Personal Development, to name a few. On our tour of the nursery during an open morning, we were impressed with the outdoor learning and play spaces, replete with swings, climbing frames, sand pits and slides.

Enhancement activities are offered including Arabic and French lessons (for two year olds and up), a cooking club and more. What's best is these activities are held in the afternoon, which is great for busy parents that need to extend the nursery hours. Something else we really like is the online portal that allows you to check your child's progress and achievements through their 'Learning Journey' folder.

  • The Bad
Kids Cottage doesn't include the summer term so you'll have to look elsewhere for childcare during this period. The starting age for enrolment is 10 months, which isn't ideal for working parents.

Unlike other nurseries in Dubai we've visited, Kids Cottage requires that you provide and organise your own bed linen for the children, including washing and replacing, too. It's also worth noting that they do not cater to children with allergies.
  • The Tips
If you're a parent that loves to join in, you'll be happy to know that this nursery in Dubai holds a number of events with activities such as 'Planting With Dad' and 'Thanksgiving Lunch'. Parents can also join workshops to learn more about the Reggio Emilia approach. Looking to save some cash? If you enrol for one year you'll get the Saver Rate, and siblings receive a 5% discount, as well. For the term times, you can choose between 8am to 1pm, 8am to 3pm, or 8am to 5.30pm.

Not a fan of early-morning lunchbox preparations? The nursery uses Nombox (at an additional charge), which includes a sandwich and other snacks; however, it's worth noting that it doesn't cater to kids with allergies.
