The Review

  • The Good

Fusing traditional Italian dining with trendy industrial vibes, MATTO Italian Restaurant is a home-grown concept that's not afraid of being a little "crazy" its name clearly suggests. Located in The Oberoi Dubai in Business Bay, this unique experience offers authentic cooking with a quirky edge.

Serving up everything from pizzas and salads to flat bread, pasta, meat and fish, expect the freshest ingredients paired with delicious flavours that pack a punch. Dessert lover? Wait until you feast your eyes on the delicious selection of cannoli and tiramisu.

Decked out with low-hanging lighting, funky artwork on the walls, a bar area and an open kitchen, we're big fans of MATTO's casual ambience. The best part? All the waitstaff are from different parts of Italy making the whole experience even more authentic (the menu even mentions this in a jokingly way, letting diners know to expect a slight language barrier...we loved it!)

The service is flawless from start to finish, and all of the servers are incredibly friendly and helpful. Our meal began with complimentary bread sticks and olive paté followed by some of the best Burrata we've ever tasted, along with a Braccio Di Ferro pizza (mozzarella, ricotta, spinach, tomato and basil...yum).

  • The Bad
This Italian restaurant Dubai locale has two different menus: the afternoon one which is served from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, and the dinner one which is from 7.30pm onwards. When comparing the two, the afternoon menu has very limited offerings with only pizza and one burger to choose from for mains. If we were told about this over the phone while booking, we would've requested a later reservation during the dinner timings.

It's also worth noting that there are no toilets available for guests inside MATTO; the nearest ones are located in the hotel lobby.
  • The Tips
Location wise, The Oberoi is a maze to get to so make sure you avoid missing the hotel entrance, otherwise you'll be driving around in circles. Our advice? Be sure to use Google Maps. Valet is available at the hotel lobby which is two levels up, so keep your eyes peeled for the steep ramp that takes you up.

During afternoon hours the tasty dessert menu is available to guests. This Italian restaurant in Dubai pretty much caters to everyone with a number of different seating areas; you've got sofa seating against the wall, high stools at the bar, a large table in the centre for up to 14 people, and private seating towards the back of the restaurant for a more intimate experience.
