New Salik Toll Gates Are Coming to Abu Dhabi Roads

Drivers in Abu Dhabi will soon be faced with new toll gates on the roads, similar to the Salik system Dubai introduced in 2007. Here are the details…

Salik toll gates coming to the capital

The new law, issued by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will make the Department of Transport responsible for determining the areas where toll gates will be located, along with cost and operation times. Recommendations will be submitted to the Executive Council for approval, with the system expected to roll out soon.

Like Salik in Dubai, Abu Dhabi’s new road toll will monitor all vehicles passing through it, automatically deducting a tariff from the driver’s pre-paid account.

Exempt from the new toll gate system are ambulances, Civil Defence, the Armed Forces, public buses and motorcycles. Drivers who evade the toll system will face fines of up to AED 10,000.
