PlayStation 5 Will Launch Globally Before Christmas in 2020

It’s official: the next-generation Sony PlayStation 5 will hit the shelves in time for the 2020 holiday season! Sony made the surprise announcement this week that has ignited millions of gamers around the world. And while details about the console are still speculation at this point, it’s hard to imagine the PS5 not breaking records. Here’s what we know so far…

Everyone’s talking about the PS5’s new controller and that’s where things get exciting. First, it will offer haptic feedback to replace  its ‘rumble’ technology from previous generations. According to Sony, “crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.”

Second, “adaptive triggers” will help players “feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.”

Are there any details about the games?

Backward compatibility has been confirmed, so your PS4 games will work on the PS5 console. In a blog post, Sony stated “we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on PS4, including Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima.” This might suggest that a slew of new titles yet to be released for PS4 will run better on PS5.

When will PS5 release and how much will it cost?

Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will release in the latter months of 2020 ahead of the holiday season. Black Friday sales will fall on November 27 of 2020, so it’s safe to assume the console will be available before that time.

We have no idea what price point the PS5 will start at, but many insiders predict it will be slightly more expensive than the PS4.
