The Review

  • The Good

A Mediterranean restaurant and deli, Tub of Butter is a whimsical, home-grown concept situated on SZR. Guests will find everything from delicious options for a healthy breakfast in Dubai to oven-baked pizzas and roasted chicken.

Boasting a playful kids corner for little ones, visitors will want to browse through the dedicated space for imported organic produce that features cheeses, olive oils, salts and peppers from countries like Pakistan and Madagascar. Looking for quirky gift ideas? Tub of Butter also has a great selection of gift hampers which are creatively arranged and sold in pint-sized plastic bathtubs.

We just couldn't stop browsing around the gourmet goods section while admiring all of the unique creations. We're talking everything from cute cookies in mini bathtubs to olive oil sprays in aftershave bottles - even the butter and jam were served in bathtubs. We loved the wall displays which were adorned with quirky quotes such as "You Had Me at Butter" and "You're the Apple of My Pie."

The overall feel of the space was quite industrial with hanging bulbs and pipes lining the ceiling at this Mediterranean restaurant in Dubai. One thing we were especially fond of were the cappuccino stencil designs of famous faces; we got Mona Lisa in our cup.

  • The Bad
Given the restaurant's popularity for breakfast in Dubai, we were surprised at the fact that bread and butter were not complimentary. For one piece of toast (with butter and jam), we were charged an additional fee.

While the menu's selection of healthy food and Mediterranean dishes were impressive, we found the overall ambience of the space quite cold and lacking that cozy feel. The dining section towards the back was extremely dark and the industrial-style design made it feel even colder.
  • The Tips
Emirates Platinum Card holders enjoy 20% off their bill. If you fancy doing a spot of food shopping, expect to also find Italian cold cuts, jams, pastries, dried pastas, Japanese tea blends, fresh olives and more in the grocery section. Parking is available at the front and back side of the restaurant.

It's worth noting that breakfast is served from 7am to 11.30am on weekdays, and until 2.30pm on weekends. Depending on who you're dining with, circular booths are available for larger groups as well as smaller two-seater tables. The menu also features a number of kids' meal options like mini pizzas.
