The Review

  • The Good

With a number of Japanese-French fusion bakeries popping up across London, Tokyo, Paris and New York, we knew it was just a matter of time before something similar hit the shores of Dubai. With three branches in the city, the quaint patisserie, Yamanote Atelier, is a haven for sweet-tooth foodies who are in the know with in-vogue culinary trends.

With interiors of teal and cream, this aesthetically-pleasing bakeshop is filled with delicate treats, cute gifts and amazing aromas - sweet and savoury - giving hints of Japan and France in every bite.

As soon as you enter the doors, your senses will be overcome with joy. The alluring layout of pastries was the first thing to catch our eye; it was love at first bite. We picked up our very own parchment-lined tray and tongs, ready to take our pick from a variety of sweet and savoury delights.

We were pleased to see an eclectic crowd consisting of local ladies, busy-bee mums, as well as French and Japanese tourists. From Japanese Milk Tea and Hello Kitty Nutella-filled buns to gourmet green teas and the famous Yamanote Rose Croissants - this place is a definite 'yes' in our books.

  • The Bad
Given the rising popularity of this peerless patisserie, it's often hard to find a table during peak hours. If only the space was a bit larger; it's definitely not big enough for large groups.

With more of a feminine setting, some gents may feel slightly out of place. This patisserie caters more for ladies-who-lunch and mid-week, girly catch-ups.
  • The Tips
Don't know much about Japanese or French bakeries? No problem, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable about their products, so just go ahead and ask away.

If you're looking for gift ideas, Yamanote Atelier sells little presents for the home, from tea sets and plates to gourmet biscuits and teas. They also have a catering service that consists of a mobile trolley offering baked goods, coffees and juices for up to 25 people.
