Last Chance For Illegal Residents in UAE as Visa Amnesty Ends this Month

If you’ve overstayed your visit visa or hold an expired residency permit, take note that the UAE visa amnesty programme has now been extended another month. Here’s what you should know

Grace period for UAE visa amnesty programme extended

The grace period for illegal residents to correct their UAE visa status has been extended until December 1, 2018, according to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. Visa violators will be able to exit the country freely without facing fines or legal issues; they will also have the option to rectify their legal status if they choose to stay.

Where to apply for the amnesty programme?

Applicants can apply for amnesty through nine centres set up across the UAE, at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs across all emirates. These centers will be open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays.

Illegal residents wishing to leave the country can get an exit permit at a cost of AED 220. Individuals have to exit within 10 days after getting the exit pass. To get the exit permit you need to submit your application with the following documents:

Those wishing to stay in the country can adjust their status by submitting new sponsor’s valid certificates for status change or residency transfer or obtain a new residency.
